Group Decries Reduction Of HIV Funding In Nigeria
The National Coordinator of Network of People with
HIV/Aids in Nigeria (NEPWHAN), Mr Edward Ogenyi,
has decried the increasing number of aids-related
deaths due to lack of access to anti-retroviral drugs
for people living with HIV/Aids.
Addressing a news conference in Abuja, Mr Ogenyi
said out of N140 billion budgeted for the
implementation of the President’s Comprehensive
Response Plan (PCRP), only N8 billion has been appropriated.
He adds that uncertainty and anxiety prevails
among people living with HIV/Aids over the drastic
reduction of external funding for HIV/Aids
treatment in Nigeria.
The Assistant National Secretary of the Network,
Hadiza Jibrin, who also spoke at the event appealed
to the Federal Government to urgently intervene in
the provision of HIV/Aids test kits in order to save
the lives of many Nigerians.
