LVG:westbrom draw our best of the season
Louis van Gaal felt Manchester United produced their best
performance of the season in Monday night's 2-2 draw with
West Brom .
The Red Devils were twice forced to come from behind at
the Hawthorns and only earned a point thanks to a sublime,
side-footed strike from Daley Blind with just three minutes
remaining.
Van Gaal, though, felt that United had played their best
football of the 2014-15 campaign to date and was thus
bitterly frustrated that the visitors had failed to secure the
win that would have propelled them back into fourth place i
the Premier league.
"I'm very disappointed because we played our best match o
the season and the result is not good enough," the former
Netherlands boss told Sky Sports .
"I have to also be happy because we created a lot of
chances and only two shots from West Brom were goals.
"We gave it away because of our individual errors. That's a
pity because you can give a new start when you win here,
and that was possible I think."
Van Gaal opted to play Robin van Persie in a lone striker's
role within a 4-2-3-1 system, with the change in formation
the second alteration the veteran coach has made since
originally opting to play 3-5-2 at the start of the season.
And he believes that his players are able to adapt to the ne
philosophy given their dominance at the Hawthorns.
"I'm looking for balance and maybe with this formation, but
with the same philosophy, we could do better," the
Dutchman mused. "I've seen in the training sessions that
we are better now.
"The players understand the philosophy more with this
formation. And I've seen it again today and that's why it's
such a pity that they don't have the result they deserve."
Asked whether the formation could trouble Chelsea in their
next game, he added: "You never know but I have a lot of
confidence."
